Let’s talk about downspout extensions.
The most common, overlooked, damaged, or missing component of the gutter and downspout system of a home is the downspout extensions. They’re usually the least expensive and easiest things any homeowner can fix. Think about it like this, the purpose of the roof is to shed water off of the house into the gutters and through the downspouts and away from the house right? What good does it do if we dump that water right out at the foundation, especially when the foundation supports the roof. Downspout extensions ARE a crucial component of the draining system and should definitely not overlooked.
A good downspout extension should be at least 5′ in length and directed away from the foundation, sidewalks or driveways.
